Mesothelioma
|
Mesothelioma Caused by prior exposure to asbestos, mesothelioma is a kind of cancer. An individual having this disease will have malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, which is a protective lining covering most of the body’s internal organs. The disease’s most common site is the pleura which is the outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity; however, the disease may also happen in the peritoneum which is the lining of the abdominal cavity. In addition, the disease can be found in the pericardium which is a sac that surrounds the heart. Many individuals who have developed mesothelioma have worked in occupations where they have inhaled asbestos particles. Other situations could be exposure to asbestos dust and fibre, when home renovating utilizing asbestos cement products or when washing family members’ clothes of those who have worked with asbestos. Dissimilar to lung cancer, mesothelioma and smoking is non- associative.
